Anyone for Coffee?

May 2025

The children of St Matia Mulumba primary school plant coffee.

St Matia Mulumba Primary School is situated in a desperately poor area of Uganda. However, coffee grows in abundance in the surrounding countryside.

To raise vital funds for the school, last year, the children planted 800 coffee seedlings. The teachers and primary school children are lovingly caring for the plants and they are thriving.

Watering and getting the plants through the dry season has been a challenge. In addition, making sure that they are adequately fertilised and infection free is important.

It is estimated that the coffee plants will produce a harvest of coffee beans after 3 years which the school can sell on the local market in Uganda.

We will post more photos of growing progress in future reports.
