Water On Tap

February 2026

A significant day

This photo may not look special, but it marks a significant day in the life of St Matia Mulumba Primary School.

The school is now connected to the Ugandan district water supply. The first tap on site in the school is delivering water.

We take so much for granted in the UK.

In Uganda, the provision of adequate all year-round clean drinkable water is a significant problem.

The school needs water for drinking, children’s washing, laundry and cooking.

The rainy months are not a problem but during the dry season, which could last for 4 to 5 months each year, the school still needs a significant water supply each day.

Through our very generous donors, EVC has financed and provided for the school:

  • A solar powered borehole pump
  • 12 large rainwater collection tanks
  • Soon to be installed, 2 rainwater collection tanks for the new nursery

In addition, we will shortly be conducting a detailed water study of the school surrounding area for the possibility of drilling a second borehole.

With the addition of this new Ugandan district supply, we hope to provide the school with adequate clean water on a continuous basis from these diverse sources.

Hopefully the days of children walking to local polluted ponds, collecting water in large containers and walking back to school will be over.

How can you help?

It costs £300 to sponsor a child ( £25 monthly standing order ) This provides a child with an education, accommodation, clothing and food and pays teaching and non teaching staff. You can also donate securely through KindLink.
