Spreading Christmas Cheer from the UK to Uganda!

December 2017

On a bitterly cold Saturday in December, a small group of EVC volunteers got together, along with friends from St Joseph’s and Christ the King parishes of Bedford. The intrepid group assembled in Morrisons supermarket forecourt at Ampthill Road, hoping their carolling would raise funds and awareness for EVC Uganda.

Once the singing began, the group was soon warmed up and the sound was fantastic. The traditional carols had acapella vocals in four-part harmony, while the toe-tapping secular Christmas songs were abundant in instruments. There were guitars, a ukulele, flute and, not forgetting the all-important sleigh bells!

The carol singing elicited many favourable comments from both store assistants and shoppers - some of the very young children were completely mesmerised by it all. The group was even approached by shoppers with their requests of favourite carols (all of which were happily granted).

Voices held out well and everyone enjoyed the experience. There was an overwhelming vote to go carolling again next year. The group sang for two hours, raising a fantastic sum of £161.92, and then it was time to warm up with a much welcomed cup of steaming tea!

Many thanks to the Morrisons crew for being so accommodating, and to those who gave up their time to raise their voices, spreading Christmas cheer from the UK to Uganda!

Happy Christmas from EVC Uganda
