Strike the Harp and Join the Chorus!

December 2018

It’s that time of year again - Advent has come around; the time for singing carols and spreading Christmas cheer!

On a cold Saturday in December, full voices were on show as a small group of volunteers came together to sing carols and help raise funds and awareness for EVC Uganda. We were once again kindly invited by Morrisons Supermarket on Ampthill Road, Bedford - as always, they were fantastic hosts.

Many of the group also took part last year and this time, a few new faces also joined. A combination of traditional Christmas carols and popular festive songs was on the menu. Intending to cater for all tastes, some pieces were performed in choral style with voices alone in full harmony, whereas others were accompanied with an array of instruments. The toe-tapping numbers were highly energetic; the old tambourine and sleigh bells enhanced the tooting flute and twanging guitars and ukuleles.

There were some great comments by passing shoppers, with children stopping to listen, sing along and enthusiastically throw coins into the collection buckets! The two hours of singing saw a fantastic total of £209.49 raised!

Thank you to Morrisons for hosting us again and to all our carollers for taking part.

Trustee Ramon, one of those who joined in with the carol singing commented:

‘The Carol Singing Fundraiser has now become an annual tradition for EVC. Each year has been so enjoyable and really gets everyone into the Christmas spirit - this year was no exception! There is always a bit of trepidation at the start while voices warm up with the first few carols, but before we knew it, the two hours were up and we could have easily sung for another 2-3 hours! I hope we get the opportunity to sing again next year.’

A very Merry Christmas from all the trustees and volunteers at EVC Uganda!
