Comic Opera, Musicals and Cheese & Wine

September 2019

On 18th September, EVC Uganda had the pleasure of hosting the wonderful talents of the Stewartby Operatic and Dramatic Society who ran a fantastic musical evening in aid of the charity.

Those in attendance were treated to numbers from the great comic operas: Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ and ‘The Mikado’ and famous musicals including ‘Oliver!’, ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat’ and ‘Les Misérables’. Voices were in full flow and the audience was invited to sing along at the end to a great rendition of ‘Jerusalem’.

The event was made extra special as Fr. Boniface was present. He provided both a speech and update in relation to the work of the charity in Uganda to date – and even sent out an invite to the Stewartby Operatic Society to perform in Uganda! The evening concluded with the annual raffle and refreshments of cheese and wine, some of which were kindly donated for the evening by Morrisons of Ampthill Road, Bedford.

Where funds were raised through ticket sales, the raffle and donations, the main focus of the evening was to be a big ‘thank you’ to our sponsors, donors and supporters, many of whom were in the audience and even helped volunteer to run stalls and set up for the evening.

From the start of the charity in 2014 to the present, great strides have been made – the number of children being sponsored and given the opportunity for an education, the development of building projects and the positive impact on the communities in the area we serve in Uganda. All this could not have been done without the ongoing support of our volunteers, donors and child sponsors!

Many thanks to Castle Newnham School for providing the venue free of charge and, of course, to the Stewartby Amateur Operatic & Dramatic Society for the wonderfully entertaining and superbly professional event. Their next production will be the full opera of The Pirates of Penzance starting on the 19th November. Please click on the above link or follow their Facebook Page for more details.

It goes without saying that the evening was a resounding success. There was a large turnout, and a sum of £845.39 was raised. Thank you again, to our child sponsors, donors and volunteers for all you do and have done to help those most vulnerable children have an education and a better life.

How can you help?

It costs £300 to sponsor a child ( £25 monthly standing order ) This provides a child with an education, accommodation, clothing and food and pays teaching and non teaching staff. You can also donate securely through KindLink.
