Our Chairman's Message 2019

December 2019

2019 has been another year of considerable achievement for EVC Uganda made possible by the magnificent support of our donors, trustees and volunteers. Our chairman, Ted Fawcett gives a brief overview below:

Church Appeals

This year EVC will have held a total of 17 church appeals, covering a large area of the country and, with parishioners providing enormous financial support through their collections and in taking up individual child sponsorship.  The churches of Our Lady’s in Bow, East London and St George’s, Wembley are making EVC their Lenten Charity for 2020.

Major Donor

One of our donors has provided the funds to build a boys’ dormitory at St Matia Mulumba, Primary School, the building of which will hopefully commence in the Spring of 2020. We very much value our donors and see care and support for them as a vital part of our work.

Child Sponsorship

We now have over 260 children sponsored in education from a base of 26 when the charity was started. However, currently, we have the details of over 300 poor children still seeking this opportunity and many more yet for EVC to locate and support.

Projects

Through the support of our UK donors, we were able to complete a girls’ dormitory and install a water borehole to provide clean water for the children at St Matia Mulumba. Future Projects planned are to build a Vocational Studies block at St Matia Mulumba and a 3-storey classroom block at St Kizito Primary School. We will need to work hard to raise the funds required for these.

Administrators in Uganda

EVC now has two Ugandan based administrators supporting the charity’s work. Both have proved highly competent and are a great asset in aiding communications with the UK.

Workaid

One of our trustees, Andy Hunt, has successfully gained the support of Workaid to supply a range of vital tools and equipment for use in our teaching of vocational skills in our two main primary schools.

Concert

In September, the Stewartby Operatic Society gave a wonderful performance in support of our work raising some £1,600 plus for the charity. It was also the largest attendance at one of our concerts to date.

Fr Boniface Kaayabula’s UK Visit

During his time in the UK, Father Boniface was the guest of honour at the concert, had meetings with EVC Trustees and volunteers in order to support our work, and met many donors.

Newsletters

There were two this year (May 2019 and October 2019) which provided a wide variety of information about the charity’s activities and future plans.

Website

The charity’s website continues both to provide a wide variety of information about our work and present a very professional image. Again, this is managed by our volunteers.

Financials

The charity continues to be very well managed financially and we operate within a very sound business basis. Costs are extremely low, around 7% of expenditure and EVC continues to be managed entirely by volunteers.

EVC’s Donors, Trustees and Volunteers

I cannot thank you enough for all you do for the charity, it is an honour and a privilege to be a part of this, God’s work.

The Future

We will seek to place even more children into sponsored education, continue and build upon our highly successful church appeals programme, commence work on our ambitious projects already outlined, seek to raise funds from charitable trusts, individuals and organisations and raise awareness of the needs of the children we support in a wide variety of ways. We trust the Lord Jesus to guide us in all we do and seek to keep Him at the centre of our work.
