Our new vocational teaching classrooms

March 2024

It is our great pleasure to report that our new vocational teaching classrooms are operational in St Matia Mulumba Primary School.

The sewing room has 30 manually operated Singer sewing machines donated by the UK charity SPICMA. We have recently taken delivery of 6 electrically operated sewing machines. This will provide valuable skills that will benefit the children in coming years and possibly lead to employment opportunities in the local area.

The workshop has received a consignment of hand and electrical tools donated by the charity Tools with a Mission (TWAM). We are busy installing an electrical generator to power the electrical tools as the area around the school has no electrical supply.

All tools have been unpacked and are in first class condition. In particular, the agricultural tools will be put to immediate and profitable use to provide supplementary food for the school or to sell locally to provide additional revenue for the school.

The library is stocked with a comprehensive supply of curriculum books and general-purpose reading books. The children have never seen a facility like this before and it is very popular and extensively used.

The IT room has an initial consignment of 10 desktop computers.  The children are getting their first experience of sitting at a keyboard.  We have plans to purchase and install an additional 20 computers to allow more individual usage.

St Matia Mulumba Primary School is certainly leading the way in this impoverished area of Uganda with our vocational training facility. We wish to thank all our UK donors and charities for providing funds for this valuable asset.

How can you help?

It costs £300 to sponsor a child ( £25 monthly standing order ) This provides a child with an education, accommodation, clothing and food and pays teaching and non teaching staff. You can also donate securely through KindLink.
