Tidings of Comfort and Joy

January 2020

It's become something of a tradition to hold a carol singing session to raise funds for EVC Uganda. Last Christmas was no exception.

A few days before Christmas, our usual group of singers from St Joseph's Church in Bedford congregated at Morrisons supermarket on Ampthill Road, joined by some new faces. Enthusiastic to burst into song, they even brought along their mascot; a teddy bear called Cecil who was named after St Cecilia, the patroness of musicians.

Fully equipped with silly hats and other novelty Christmas accessories, the group were soon harmonizing away to popular carols and other festive favourites. Some were accompanied by instruments, others sung acapella, but many pieces were supported by the shoppers who heartily joined in with the singing.

We collected a magnificent £250.09, plus €3.20, $0.25 and a B&M shopping trolley token! That's about £50 more than the previous year and £100 better than 2017's effort. Quite likely, it was the presence of Cecil who inspired the extra donations!

We wish to thank the management at Morrisons once again, for allowing us to fundraise in their shop entrance, and all going well, we look forward to bettering the performance next Christmas!
